It looks as though the Foxconn factory in Shenzhen will have to hire a few more security guards as tension rises again with another worker death.
27 year old Yan Li died last Friday after a month of working the night shift at the Foxconn factory. A workers’ rights group has said that exhaustion is to blame for his death. So far, 11 workers at the Foxconn factory have died, the majority of those – well, all of those barring one – have been suicides. Campaigns and candlelit vigils amidst security guards have convinced the management to give the workers a 30% pay rise. Let’s hope that this helps.
