The tenth of December saw the first ever checks on CCTV operatives and security guards in Northern Ireland. This came a few days after it became illegal for security people in Northern Ireland to work in the security industry without the appropriate licence from the SIA (Security Industry Authority).

The checks were based around 35 sites in Craigavon, Antrim, Lisburn, Londonderry, Belfast, Newry and Ballymena. The SIA found that 116 guards and operatives out of 119 held SIA licences. A very good turn out.
