The Mall shopping centre in Norwich is about to become a no-go area for crime and anti-social behaviour. The security guards at the shopping centre have been given new police-type powers in order to counteract things like shoplifting, graffiti, drinking, littering and begging.

In the new scheme which has gathered plenty of controversy, the security guards can give out fines and demand names and addresses of anyone using anti-social or criminal behaviour. The guards carry identification with the Norfolk Police logo on, but some people worry that the new powers may undermine traditional policing. Whether that is the case or not, it’s sure to help keep order at the shopping centre!
