A water fight organised through social networking over the internet ended with the arrests of six people – but I’m sure they had a blast before that! Social media sites that advertised the event said, “As soon as the clock strikes 1pm, let battle commence – get as many other people wet without getting wet yourself! Last one with a dry T-shirt wins!!!”
Around 1,500 people took part in the massive water fight which took place last Friday at Hyde Park near Oxford Street in London. The water fight lasted a good eight hours, from 1-9pm and it only dispersed when Scotland Yard was forced to issue a Section 60 order allowing police officers and to search people and security guards began to move people on. The people arrested were held for GBH, affray, possession of an offensive weapon and other offences. There seems to be a growing trend for Facebook-organised parties at the minute and as lots of people attend, security officers have sometimes taken measures to prevent these get-togethers or provide event security forces.
