So after extra security guards being placed around the England team in South Africa yesterday, it turns out that there was no need! After a bumpy start to the 2010 World Cup, England at last found its feet and pulled through with a 1-nil win against Slovenia! Well done England!

No doubt we could have done with some event security around England last night though as over £15 million extra was spent in the pubs of England – still the mood was nothing if not jubilant as fans wrapped in England flags hugged, shouted and cried in the streets, showing a level of comradeship not seen very often anymore.

The country came to an absolute standstill yesterday as almost everybody stopped to watch the World Cup match, whether in work or in the pubs. No doubt there was a massive epidemic of England-itus the night before the match – but at least the next one is on a Sunday. Come on England, one more time!
