A botnet that was targeting internet users in Mexico has been taken down – by its creator! What a shame all botnets can’t do that, eh? Only a few weeks after its first appearance, the ‘Tequila botnet’ as it was named, was switched off by a set of instructions.

According to leading IT security company Trend Micro, cybercriminals dismantled the botnet because a security posting by the company alerted people to the proxy servers and redirected hosts used by the crooks to control the infected PCs and phisihing attacks.

A second sister botnet was set up after the Tequila one, but this didn’t last long either as it was tamer than Tequila. I suppose that when you’re a cybercrook, only the best will do.
