Security systems research firm ISS Labs has completed a detailed review of ten big-name security vendors such as AVG, McAfee and Trend Micro in order to see how good their end-point security systems are. Worryingly, ISS Labs has discovered during the course of the review, that these top-name anti-malware solutions can sometimes take up to 92 hours to block malicious sites and threats. Which means that users can be left vulnerable for days. Approxiamately 15,000 to 50,000 malware threats are encountered every day and some of the top name IT security companies were only hitting a 35% block rate. Other companies were getting an 88.3% which is better but still a lot lower than you would expect. ISS Labs has said that out of the ten vendors it tested, only three managed to respond to threats within 30 hours.
