The CEO of Stonewood,a hardware encryption business, has spoken out for hardware encryption. According to Chris McIntosh, companies outside the government and the military are almost uniformly ignoring the option of hardware encryption to keep their data safe. The main cause of this is expense and, as McIntosh puts it, an ‘it-won’t-happen-to-me’ attitude.

Ignoring tried and tested data protection methods such as hardware encryption is more than fool-hardy though – it’s also potentially dangerous to your company. With new powers granted to the ICO, a breach of Data Protection Laws could result in massive fines, not to mention the damage to your reputation. Consider the recent Zurich data loss fiasco. Be smart and encrypt while you can.
