The Kaiser Family Foundation has recently released a report that shows how children are spending more and more time online. Children aged 8-18 now spend an average of 1-1.5 hours per day online compared to 1999 when the same age group spent an average of 27 minutes online. Once online though, children are at risk from two major threats – online predators and malware. When a child is using a computer at home, parental supervision can ensure the safe use of the internet. However, in a school or youth club for example, supervision is not always possible. One of the ways to combat the risk to children online is to use security experts to set up a whole host of security measures online such as blocking certain sites and firewalls or whitelists. As many adults can also be unaware of malware or online predators, it pays to ask the experts!
