40 year old Peter Lightfoot, the special constable who assaulted an off-duty soldier while arresting him has this week been jailed.

Lightfoot was found guilty of using violence against Lance Corporal Mark Aspinall and then lying deliberately in order to hide his actions. However, unknown to Lightfoot, the whole incident was caught on CCTV camera.

This week, Lightfoot was jailed for two years for assault and one year for perjury. Judge Jeffrey Lewis said, “It is always an unpleasant and unwelcome duty to have to pass sentence on a police officer, and this case is no exception.”
