Despite relying on them for our well being and placing our lives in their hands, the way that we treat hospital staff is nothing short of abominable. If you have an accident and go to the A&E department, you’ll more than likely find it teeming with police as belligerent, violent and often drunk people abuse the very people they expect to help them. Despite security systems and CCTV, this kind of ritual abuse is more prevalent than ever.
This weekend highlighted the lack of security that hospital staff receives as reports came in of the attack of Jane Clough in the very car park of the hospital where she worked. 26 year old Clough was walking to her car after a shift at the Blackpool Victoria Hospital when she was stabbed. She was rushed to the A&E department where she worked but died despite the frantic efforts of her colleagues. A local paramedic, Jonathan Vass has been arrested – too little too late.
