A UK scientist has become the first human to contract a computer virus, in a development that has massive implications for IT security solutions.
The scientist in question is Dr Mark Gasson, a senior research fellow with the Cybernetic Intelligence Research Group at the University of Reading. Dr Gasson already had a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip implanted in his arm, for research purposes and to allow interaction with electronic security systems and mobile devices. Dr Gasson simply downloaded a virus onto the chip and passed it on to other devices. Which shows, medical implants and the like, such as pacemakers, can be interfered with. Which means, IT security needs to become tighter, and fast!
