One thing about security is that you can never be too early, even when talking about Christmas two days before Bonfire Night. But as the government releases warnings to businesses, shop owners, clubs and pubs to remain vigilant throughout the coming months and Tesco drags out last year’s decorations, we at Churchill Security Limited thought it prudent to remind our customers and public of the importance of security over the Christmas period.

At Churchill Security Ltd., we adhere to the old adage: ‘prepare for the worst and hope for the best’ and that is why we believe it is imperative that security precautions are put into action well in advance. It may not seem like it now, but the Christmas rush will soon creep up on us and before we know it the shops will be bursting with merchandise, the streets with shoppers and the pubs and clubs with revellers.

Yet while security remains key to ensuring the smooth running of what is undoubtedly the most chaotic time of year, health and safety will also become a huge issue, particularly if weather forecasts are to be believed.

Not to worry however, because here at Churchill, as well as public safety, all of our security officers are also trained in first aid, health and safety and risk analysis; enabling them to provide a full risk and security assessment of your premises as well as ensure customer safety and confidence.

Contact Churchill Security Limited today for an immediate quote or to find out more about our services. Make sure you have Christmas all wrapped up.

Vehicles arriving at the shopping centre will be checked by security officials up until the end of the Games to ensure that safety isn’t compromised in any way.

The London Organising Committee, Chief executive officer Paul Deighton said that the security improvements are a “priority” as organisers look to deliver a safe and secure Games.

“We will make the checks as quick and unobtrusive as possible – we are confident that shoppers will recognise the need for us to be vigilant and carry out these checks.

“We are also committed to working with the local community to ensure that vehicle screenings have a minimal impact on their daily lives.” He said.

Parking barriers have also been installed at a Stevenage hospital ahead of the opening of a new multi-storey car park.

If you feel your property, retail store or even event could benefit from security not already in place or you feel your system needs an upgrade then get in touch with Churchill Security, bringing you the best in safety, protection and crime deterrence.

The retail sector is a tricky one; you want to create a relaxing and enticing atmosphere for your customers so they feel comfortable browsing round your shop or outlet, however you can’t afford to neglect your security needs to avoid unwanted situations.

When it comes to retail security, a subtle approach is something we specialise in. We believe you can’t offer a strong security presence without first understanding the environment you’re implementing it into. This is why our security guards are fit for a range of different situations and can adapt to all kinds of scenarios.

The thought of a typical retail security guard might conjure up images of a lazy man in a uniform strolling round a shopping mall twirling a torch but at Churchill Security, that isn’t how we roll. Although we appreciate the need to be discreet, we also know if a job’s worth doing it’s worth doing right. In line with this, we aim to make it as easy as possible for our customers to find use of our services.

What retail security guards services do we offer?

As part of a tailored retail security package, it’s up to the client what the security guards wear. This is just one of the variables that Churchill Security offers to deliver a stronger more desirable security service. Historically, we have successfully safeguarding anything from small boutique stores to large outlet stores. In smarter more upmarket shops such as jewellery stores, we have been able to provide security guards wearing a clean cut uniform with a blazer and black shoes however should there be a request for a guard fully uniformed we can also cater to this need as well as supplying an in store detective which is basically a security guard dressed in plain clothes.

Advantages of security guards within retail

If you hired Churchill Security for your retail security needs, you’d receive a highly qualified SIA licensed guard with vast experience in retail environments. Dual roles are something that we offer from our guards and this means that you can choose to have your guard split their time between patrolling the store and monitoring your CCTV system. In retail, the best thing a security guard can be is a visual deterrent. If you’re seen to have a reliable, strong security presence you can help yourself avoid countless undesirable situations from shoplifting to trespassing, all the while creating a safe shopping environment for your customers and staff alike.

At the beginning of the week a reported 150 mob members stirred up violence in the city as shops in the Cabot Circus shopping centre were smashed and looted.

A spokesman for the shopping centre said they’ve added extra security with teams working closely with the police. Business leaders are also encouraging businesses to take precautions to protect themselves and their employees from violence.

Bristol City Councillors are determined not to let the riots deter businesses from opening, encouraging those affected to clean up and open as usual not allowing the mobs to worsen the already weak economy. The councillors condemned the violence and like many across the country, look forward to the perpetrators being brought to justice. If you feel your business needs to take extra security precautions then Churchill Security provides all the protection you need. With qualified and trained security guards and corporate and retail security services available your business needn’t feel under threat.

The year-on-year cost of theft to high street stores up and down the country has soared from £99 million to £137 million.

Shoplifters are getting their hands on everything from TVs, computer games and clothes to perfumes worth a shelf loss of £375,342 every single day.

Retailers suspect organised gangs of thieves who steal more valuable hauls are responsible for the rising figure as the average price tag of goods stolen has also increased from £45 to £70.

The figures were based on a survey of 54 retailers who employ more than 1.3 million staff and represent almost half of Britain’s retail turnover.

The line between bravery and stupid is often blurred – but unfortunately for 46-year-old Stephen Kirkbride, he crossed a line no criminal should ever dare to cross. Which ended up being quite fortunate for the South Lakeland Magistrates’ Court in Kendal.

Accused of robbing the £125 Craghopper coat from the city’s Sports Direct outlet, Kirkbride arrived at the court in style – by wearing the item he was accused of stealing. After leaving it on a chair, staff summoned to deliver evidence notified police; resulting in Kirkbride surrendering the coat.

His defence solicitor Judith Birkett stated that her client “wouldn’t be so stupid” by appearing in court in the stolen outfit, but in the end, judge Jenny Farmer found him guilty of shoplifting.

Shop manager Deborah Robson explained: “I pointed the jacket out to the police officer and he seized it straight away.”

Kirkbride claimed to have bought the coat from a charity shop, and whilst it had rips from where the security tags had been taken out, he said: “It was damaged but I thought it was a bargain.”

Whilst the police had not been able to locate the outer layer of the two part coat, it was only until Kirkbride wore the waterproof to court that they noticed he was wearing the coat’s gortex outer layer.

The defendant said that he had taken the coat “from a friend’s house”, but refused to disclose the “friend’s” identity.

Crown prosecutor David Duke said: “You’re making this up as you go along, aren’t you?”

The security trade has experienced such massive setbacks, that even highly skilled security guards employed at Australia’s most busy airports are walking out of their jobs due to long shifts and low pay.

Researcher of terrorism and counter-terrorism issues at Monash University, Dr Luke Howe, explained that security officers are the first port of call at the sign of any emergency, and must be given the respect they deserve.

“You can have the best national security and intelligence agencies around, but it doesn’t mean anything if a tired and underpaid security guard isn’t doing their job and lets someone with a bomb through,” he stated.

“People who are low-paid and bored are hardly going to do a good job and from the perspective of counter-terrorism related security, they play a pivotal role.”

Morale is important in any situation, especially in the case of emergencies. Our fully trained SIA licenced security guards offer a range of security services, including mobile patrols and retail security – for more information on how Churchill Security can benefit your business, call us today.
