As the big day of the start of the London 2012 Olympics creeps closer security remains a top priority.

According to London Organising Committee (Locog) members, there will be a band of personnel security guards and a band of military guards to cover the event. However, concerns have now been raised at how two such different security forces will be able to work in unison.

So far 10,500 guards from G4S have been contracted for venue security and a further 3,500 are to be recruited. Meanwhile the Ministry of Defence will have 13,500 troops involved in the event’s security so it’s vital that the two co-ordinate to ensure the most effective security.

The head of Locog said military troops will wear their own uniforms which is yet another issue causing debate with many believing that such a visible army presence will cause an air of fear rather than protection.

Not only this but a security executive stated that having separate bands of command that depended on mixing military and civilian security simply couldn’t guarantee a smooth operation and could in fact cause tension. The two groups do things very differently and as has happened in the past both groups have been left completely frustrated rather than focusing on the job at hand.

So if you’re thinking of holding an event and need top event security that will ensure everything runs smoothly then you need to get in touch with Churchill Security. We’ll work alongside you coordinating our services with your needs to bring you a top level of protection.

In a statement the Olympic Delivery Authority said, “Such tests have a key role in developing our capability to ensure that London 2012 is safe and secure and that we are best prepared to detect potential threats before and during the Games.” The statement continued stating, “Members of the public with tickets should be reassured that such exercises are being staged to ensure their safety, our number one priority.”

The fear of terror will be the biggest security issue for the London Olympics especially considering the 2005 bombing incident which targeted the London transit network.

The police’s successful smuggling operation has only highlighted how unprepared we actually are for the Olympics and how easy it really would be to carry out such a fatal act. Following this attempt we sincerely hope security in the city steps up so that the London 2012 Olympics are memorable for all the right reasons.

If you need to step up your security surrounding an event then get in touch with Churchill Security today and our unbeatable event security package will ensure you have all the protection you need.

Know in the industry as PAS 200, the new standard aims to help organisations develop plans and contingencies in order to detect and prepare for before responding to a crisis situation. The plan is designed to deal with the various kinds of organisational upheaval that can occur in the event of another series of riots or precipitant occurrences.

The standards were also drawn up in anticipation of the large-scale upheaval likely to be caused by the 2012 Olympic Games.

Dr. Robert MacFarlane of the Cabinet Office stated on the issue: “Crises are, by their very nature, unexpected and extremely challenging therefore the Cabinet Office strongly encourages every organisation to think about implementing some simple, practical steps to improve their resilience”.

Here at Churchill Security Limited, we ensure that all of our officers are prepared for any eventuality by furnishing them with the best in in-house and national standard training programmes. We guarantee that the skills of our officers are transferrable and can be implemented in a timely and professional manner.

And if you’re looking for employer peace of mind as well as a robust security presence, we pride ourselves in our close customer contact practices, making sure that our security services can immediately adapt to any developments in your security status, however serious.

One thing about security is that you can never be too early, even when talking about Christmas two days before Bonfire Night. But as the government releases warnings to businesses, shop owners, clubs and pubs to remain vigilant throughout the coming months and Tesco drags out last year’s decorations, we at Churchill Security Limited thought it prudent to remind our customers and public of the importance of security over the Christmas period.

At Churchill Security Ltd., we adhere to the old adage: ‘prepare for the worst and hope for the best’ and that is why we believe it is imperative that security precautions are put into action well in advance. It may not seem like it now, but the Christmas rush will soon creep up on us and before we know it the shops will be bursting with merchandise, the streets with shoppers and the pubs and clubs with revellers.

Yet while security remains key to ensuring the smooth running of what is undoubtedly the most chaotic time of year, health and safety will also become a huge issue, particularly if weather forecasts are to be believed.

Not to worry however, because here at Churchill, as well as public safety, all of our security officers are also trained in first aid, health and safety and risk analysis; enabling them to provide a full risk and security assessment of your premises as well as ensure customer safety and confidence.

Contact Churchill Security Limited today for an immediate quote or to find out more about our services. Make sure you have Christmas all wrapped up.

Speaking at the Event Venue Security Conference in London, Chief Inspector Amery emphasised that while it is important to maintaining the public spirit of the games that security does not become the main focus, there could be significant and lasting benefits to the communities living around Olympic sites if security were to have a major impact.

New Era for Event Security

Amery explained that the events will take Britain’s private security industry away from the localised and corporate stage and place it in the global arena, making it a salient reference point for calibrating the success of the nation as a whole.

“We want the security legacy to be leaving a safe and secure environment for the communities of East London after the games, on issues such as safer neighbourhoods, lighting and crime prevention. We want a games and a legacy that will reduce crime and the fear of crime.”

While he refused to comment on plans for organising security or to provide an accurate breakdown of future costs and contingencies, Amery said that organisers were focussing on a partnership approach between private security guards and regional police forces, emphasising that there would be a vital role for the private security industry to play.
