The security measures aim to connect cameras, already covering shopping malls, schools and busy roads and link them to the police, fire brigade and medical emergency response teams.

William Vedra, of the Ohio Homeland Security Division explains the Camera Integration Project would be viewed by police via the Internet; any time an emergency call comes through and reportedly could help control hostage situations or aid fire-fighters in locating trapped victims.

Vedra says the system would cost Homeland Security $235,000 and would only include cities, schools and businesses who openly volunteer to partake.

Aimed to launch over the next couple of years, the scheme follows the success of ‘Virtual Alabama’, the first state wide camera network created back in July 2006.

Mr Merret has now suffered serious brain damage following the incident which took place in January 2009 and Violetta Aylward has been suspended whilst the inquest continues.
